Welcome to our first-ever Echoes From the World. At @IdentityandCulture, we believe every story has a heartbeat and every culture has a secret. This activity is designed to bridge the gap between the stories we host in our reading lists and the diverse community that reads them. Together, we dive into our culture, spotlight a story, and challenge you, the people of the world, to decode a mystery. Every reader who joins us will receive a special participant sticker at the end of the month to celebrate their contribution to the community.

Lenore is a sphinx shifter. Rye is a monster hunter. The last thing either of them expected was to fall in love. Lenore doesn't like violence. She doesn't eat meat, or pick fights. But she's a sphinx, which is reason enough for anyone who learns her secret to think she's a bloodthirsty killer. So Lenore keeps to herself and her woods, intent to let the world go on without her. That is until he shows up. Rye is a hunter. There's nothing he hates more than the kin, and sphinxes especially, the vile creatures that killed his mother in front of him when he was just a boy. He's dedicated his life to avenging her death. And now he has a wounded sphinx in his sights. Nothing will stop him from making the kill... Enter Tarah and Marton Hastings, the dragon/human couple on a quest to save the world, one story at a time. They have a mission for the sphinx and the monster hunter, an unlikely paring that might just be perfect to stop the rogue group of hunters terrorizing humans and kin alike across Umrahs. Lenore and Rye reluctantly agree, and even more reluctantly set out together to see what might be done to keep their people safe. The journey they go on will shake them both to the core of who they are, and change their nation forever.

When an unadventurous pair of friends find themselves tangled in the core of adventure, things get much more complicated than they anticipated. Sarah and Aisha are thrown into a place they never thought to be true. Will they be able to survive magical stuff hurled their way, an evil queen, and a sort of amnesiac companion?

It has clean air and massive rocks to climb. There's only one grandmother here with a house full of amazing things she's never put her hands on before, and her Mom left her there for the entire summer without a cell phone to keep track of where she was and who she was talking to. It was going to be amazing.

The Sphinx is a short story telling the tale of a young boy who stumbles across a Sphinx in an oasis. The boy is faced with a choice - answer her riddle, or perish. To her horror, he answers correctly and chooses to remain with her, disrupting her chosen life of solitude. Across the years, their friendship blooms - laughter, wisdom, and quiet companionship forging a bond she never expected or wanted. But when time begins to take him from her, the Sphinx must grapple with loss, grief, and the meaning of a finite life. Disclaimer - the idea for this short story is not mine. It's just something I found online but cannot remember username of the person who posted it. If I come across the post again, I will update with the username. I really just wanted to write the story because it was such a great idea and it stuck with me. I only own the parts I have written for this short story.

A cute short story about the dalliance between two mythological creatures

A world with many different fantasy species, once in a tense peace, has now fallen into an all-out war, dragging many from any kingdom to fight in its bloody battles. Four from different species each vow to end the war for their own reasons, come together by a stroke of luck. Surrounded by mistrust and hatred, these four try to accomplish what seems impossible. A/N: The title is not that great right now, message or comment anywhere on the story if you have a better idea! I'm open to all suggestions. Enjoy!
