"Is this thing on?" a young elf boy prodded and poked at a small camcorder. "Woah-woah-woah!!" a red-capped boy huffed, "Don't hit my camera, Young Link! If it breaks, you're buying me a new one!" "Yes, it's on. See that blinking light?" a pigged-tailed girl explained before pacing over and crouching down into the camera's view. "Come on, I'm short on time! Let's do this!" A few fighters cluttered the camera, and with the click of a record button, the young elf boy chirped, throwing out his arms in excitement. "Hello, I'm Young Link, and welcome to the super duper cool and awesome Smash Bros Mansion!!" "It's Ness! Here, we document the crazy and hectic life of us fighters..." Ness piggybacked and drew closer to the camera, putting his hands on it... "And trust me... It gets pre-tty crazy..." A flat pitch black man with a gray outline was behind the camera, and he panned the camcorder over to a smitten couple who held each other. One shrieked and became frantic once he realized they were being filmed, and the other boy in blue glanced at the camera as well, but his teal eyes narrowed. "awh~ look~!" he cooed while holding the blond's flustered cheeks, leaning foward "Kiss cam, baby, pucker up~!" "a-ACK!! mARTH, SOME D-DECENCY!!" The camera panned again... A dark blue-haired man with a red cape tossed down two cards. "Draw four." A blond boy with a pompadour clamored, disgruntled, with a handful of cards in hand. "IkE! YOU CAN'T DO THAT !!" "Do what?" he shrugged. The boy ruffled his hair frazzled. "YOu can'T STACK CARDs LIke THAt!!" "I can and I did, Lucas." He tossed down two more. "Draw 8" The camera panned backed to the main cast. "As you can see..." Ness started, "We've got lots to tell. SO! Join us in our shenanigans and slice of life, you won't regret it!" Everyone either struck a pose or waved goodbye. "Peace from the smash mansion!"

Sweet, intelligent, but naive Chloe has just enrolled in her first boarding school: SSB Academy. Tired of moving around and constantly being the social odd girl out, she looks forward to a year at the esteemed fighting school where, supposedly, only the best of the best are allowed to attend. (Whether or not she believes that rumor is besides the point.) What she comes to realize, though, is that the Academy is so much more, in more ways than one. Gradually, she notices strange things that others almost specifically ignore - odd coincidences, peculiar people, and nonsensical dreams. But after even stranger events, a silver-haired man tells her to look for an item a new friend is hiding, and her worst fear comes true: The dreams start to make sense. Haunted by nightmares of fire, demons, robots, swords, stars, and death, Chloe worries that her new companions are hiding something from her - something very important - but she never could have imagined what the truth would lead to. From a untrustworthy school board, to the missing former principal, to the mysterious Resistance, to Chloe's conflicting past, it all adds up to one thing: The search for the 28th Faction.
