Depression is corruptive. It infects the mind and won't let go. It takes away your energy to live then punishes you for not living, a cycle of endless torment. Like an unreliable narrator embracing the downfall of the child that lives inside us all.

"No." She insists, cutting him off instantly. "We are not setting the entire camp back several hours just so some dramatic prince can get his journal back." She- Maeve, he assumes -bites, and Rae flinches at the angry emotions. "He can live without it. We need to get moving before-" "Astrid needs a journal," The man offers. And for some reason, this makes the woman freeze. Rae pulls his wings close against his back in his attempt to hide the grimace at the bitter flavor; frantically pushing her emotions into a raindrop to make it join the rest of the downpour. If either avian notices his discomfort; neither of them mention it, and the man continues speaking. "And she's practically a master at botany. If he needs a journal, we should get it." The woman takes a deep, angry breath as Rae tries not to panic. He hates being in the same place as someone when they're this angry. Doesn't want to be seen or looked at when anyone is angry. He can't handle it- --- Or; A story about grief, broken families, and how communication can fail when someone doesn't want to change.

This poem gracefully traces the five stages of grief, as denial's garden shields from impending doom, anger's tempest dances with resentment, depression embraces in shadowy sorrow, bargaining pleads under moonlit nights, and acceptance dawns with a muted sunrise, leaving behind a poignant collage of memories as time draws near.

i will always say this, cover art not mine. CW for s/h, suicide, (substance) abuse in general, homophobia, and other shit like that please don't read if uncomfortable!!! - Milo is 15, yes, he's 15. Yes, he smokes weed and will occasionally vape. He can't help it! It's just how he grew up. Ever since he was born, his parents were alcoholics and druggies. They did care for him, just not in the best way. Instead of buying him new stuff, they gave him their old shit all the way from clothes to various supplies like soap and dishwasher detergent. It was all useless stuff anyway, so Milo didn't really care. In one of his classes at school, they were learning about the mental state of people in different positions in life, this week was grief. Stupid. It's all stupid. When would anyone need to know about that? It's not like some sad depressing shit would happen anytime soon. Milo's life was boring and ordinary, he wouldn't change it for the world. He was decently happy and had a best friend named Diana. She was the best. Always happy, never has secrets to hide, she's practically an angel to him. She's also the first non toxic religious person Milo has talked to. Diana isn't religious and she's also like him, "different" They both grew up in a very homophobic and transphobic place, not the best. Full of angry rednecks and Christians. Not a healthy environment. Diana lived with her mom and older brother since her dad moved out of town and her mom couldn't afford the rent, her brother was helping. Milo's parents were getting by just fine, sometimes he'd lend money to Diana and her relitives to help pay the bills but he couldn't always do that. If his mom or dad found out, he'd get the shit beaten out of him. Milo and Diana have both been going to the same school since 5th grade, they're now in 9th. Not the best school, but they do have some pretty chill teachers. And they have cheap vending machines. Today's Christmas, and Milo's birthday. Diana loves Christmas. Milo doesn't.
