The world was never the same after the fall of steam, a piece of American History all lost to the cutters torch in the 1950's... But what if there was one railroad who tried its best to save as many trains as it could? Let's find out. (HINT! There will be talking trains, boats; etc. but no faces.)

The Paradise Island is expanding, and has become the only railway in the world to have steam as it's main power. Now, some people have been criticizing the railway, because of how old some of the engines are. Let's see what happens when they come to the Island. (Thomas and Friends owned by Mattel)

If you have ever visited Barter Books, you may have crossed paths with David Champion. While many know him as a lovely man and the dedicated Director of our beloved bookshop, he holds a fascinating, deeply fitting connection to the building's railway past. Before overseeing the endless shelves of Alnwick Station, David was a towering figure in the world of railway preservation. According to the official history of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, David was a founding member and former Chairman who spearheaded the famous "price of a pint" fundraising campaign. His brilliant vision successfully raised the funds to build Tornado-the first mainline steam locomotive built in the UK since 1960! The details of his incredible journey from building steam engines to directing our historic shop can be found in public records, his biography on The Org, and local history documentaries, including a wonderful guided tour he gave for Peep Magazine on YouTube. This poem, The Engine and the Ink, celebrates the beautiful irony of David's life story. How fitting that a man who dedicated himself to bringing a magnificent steam engine back to life now anchors his days in a Victorian railway station, safeguarding the history and stories within. Dear reader, If you don't know about me then you're about to. As to why I chose to write an autobiography when I am still a young adult and nowhere near retiring age... I believe that everyone has a story to tell. I have plenty, even before I am classified as a 'man'. Like every individual in this world, I would like my story told. So I will recount the precious, depressing, and traumatizingly fun days that I have spent so far. As things are going well I plan to write additional chapters much later in life when bigger moments happen... no I will not be able to find my pen licence and laminate it, as sad as that sounds.
