Riley Hopper's life wasn't exactly 'normal' to begin with. The cancer diagnosis, eventually leading to the tragic death of her little sister had torn her family apart and had left a hole in both her and her parents' hearts. Her parents got divorced, unable to cope with the loss of their youngest and easily their favorite child, not that they would ever admit that. Her mother decided that if she couldn't have her youngest daughter she didn't want any daughter at all, so Riley moved to Hawkins, Indianna with her father.
