The twenty-third entry of the 2022-2023 Film Journal brings a work from director Steven Spielberg's filmography, "Empire of the Sun". Here, I recount the unique power of Spielberg's filmmaking in telling this semi-autobiographical tale which deeply affected me far, far more than I anticipated; stirring up old pains I thought had finally left me. IMPORTANT NOTE: due to shifts in my personal life, such as taking on a new project with a novel creative partner, starting here, the entries for this film journal will be reduced to balance my schedule while maintaining this greater text towards completion.

Trying to survive the changes of the neighborhood. A boy who was kicked out for being true to himself. A girl who's struggling to find herself in a toxic home. Both making it through the outlines. They were never meant to meet but fate had another plan for them. Now they're both trying to survive the changes together but it's only the- Beginning.
