I shouldn't be here. Bucky always told me to be more careful with myself. Always after jumping in to save Steve from a fight, or screaming at my father about marriage and my future. I can almost hear his disapproval now. This isn't somewhere he'd want me to be. But he's dead. My left knee bounces up and down quickly, nervously, as I wait. "Rose Adley?" Her tone resembles a statement more than a question. A woman with a severe, angular face watches me expectantly, holding the dark oak wood door of her office open for me. I rise from my seat, following her into the small room. "Everyone calls me Ro," I rush out, making sure I don't chicken out at the last moment. She steps closer to me. Maybe to intimidate me, but I can't see her exact expression through my ever blurring eyes. "So, Ro, what do you have to offer us?" Again, the woman makes it more of a statement than a question. I pause, to think about it. and there's nothing. Nothing I can offer her. The defeat of this thought, burned into my brain since the end of the war, suddenly became a promise. I look her straight in the eyes. I can see her clearly now "I don't have anything left." The woman nods, the corners of her thin mouth perking up slightly in a smile. "Perfect."

22 that's the number Steve has on his wrist. It's his favorite number because that's the age his soulmate will be when they meet for the first time. Ever since he learned the meaning of the number she's the only thing on his mind. Until Bucky falls off a train, then stopping HYDRA is all he cares about.
