patrick jane works for the cbi (california Bureau of Investigation). he is highly intelligent and happy all the time. everyone thinks he is childish or weird when he gets invested in cases or gets intrigued by little things like a figurine or a motorbike or even just a compliment. the truth is he's masking all the time as he has told no one, not even Lisbon, the leader of the team, he has been diagnosed with autism and he can't help the way he is. The characters are taken from the series mentalist. I have borrowed them and adapted them for my use.

Disclaimer: This is a slightly fictionalized story of what it's like to exist in a special education classroom. Names have been changed to protect students and teachers. Behaviors may seem exaggerated, but all of them are real and as extreme as they sound. Have you ever wondered what life was like in a self-contained classroom? Well, you're in the right place! I'm a parapro in an MOID/Autism unit at a middle school, and I'm going to take you inside the day to day life of a self-contained classroom. What does MOID mean? It's students with moderate intellectual disabilities. Disabilities that aren't a part of the autism spectrum but still impact speech and other development. While reading this story, keep in mind that these students are middle schoolers. They're big kids, so things get a little crazy, and they're all hitting puberty, and growing, and we're going to talk about all of it. So we hope you enjoy this little behind the scenes look of a special education classroom. Thanks!

As a young man with autism (and the sibling of three boys with it too), I realized a lot of teenagers and young adults on the spectrum don't really get the help they need, usually because they are able to somewhat function in a normal society. And after a quick search on Wattpad trying to find a book on it, I realize they really aren't any guides for teenage or young adult autism (minus the many Justin Bieber fan fictions I found. Seriously, what us it with an autistic Bieber, guys?) and that should change. So welcome all to my humble abode- er, book, focusing on autism through the teen and YA years!
