The land where they lived in, became ruined bc of a big opening in the earth, leavening people panicking. They want to find out what the crack is about so they send a bunch of soldiers but none of them ever came back. But the government still tries since there isn't enough space in the tiny land anymore and the opening keeps getting bigger, taking villages with them. So every year they force a 1000 children above 12 to go in the army. To find information about the opening.
