When a vanishing enemy attacks their isolated little corner of Sotoa, ragtag Hangman squadron must take their rusting sky buckets into action to discover who and why.

In the year 2032, Strangereal stands on the verge of revolution; countries are fading away, as corporate giants continue their rise, up-ending the entire fabric of nations. Over in Usea, the General Resources War rages on as Erusea faces down General Resources, and the players of ACES Online will make all the difference in deciding the future of Strangereal... or so it's hoped.

The world of Strangereal in the 1960s and 1970s was far from peaceful, and whilst the players of the 23rd continue to work their way through their campaign, the world carries on around them. Here are some of those untold stories...

1999. The year that the world fell into the abyss. Humanity had pinned its hopes on superweapons such as Stonehenge and Chandelier, and those hopes fell short with delays. The Ulysses asteroid devastated Erusea, and fragments would impact most of the world - but the resulting humanitarian crisis was just the beginning of humanity's woes. In the days and months following the impact, a new element would be detected in the Earth's atmosphere; a new and volatile element known colloquially as Ether. Large ether concentrations in the atmosphere would condense, clumping together to form... things known as Hollows. The world had survived one catastrophe, if only barely, but it wasn't ready for the Hollows, and large portions of the Earth would be engulfed in Hollows by 2005. A hundred years later, Earth is recovering, and the Hollows have retreated from large parts of Osea and Yuktobania, allowing for the gradual rebuilding of civilization outside the city state of New Eridu...

This is the final part of my story, Ace Combat: Shadow War. If you haven't read Ace Combat: Shadow War yet I suggest you read it first and then the one shot after that called You Can't Go then come read this.

In October 2022, the Japanese company Argus released what was expected to be one of the killer apps on the NerveGear - ACES Online. A follow up to the VR mode for Ace Combat 7, developed into its own game, with a true multiplayer online experience, and a campaign set in the Strangereal world... What players weren't expecting, was for ACES Online to become a death game, trapping the players inside...

This story follows the perspective of a young Erusean fighter pilot from his flight training to when he joins the Erusean Air and Space Administration's Sol Squadron and takes part in his first major conflict: The Lighthouse War. I wrote this story back when I first started my Archive of Our Own account about two years ago.
