Terra needs good grades for a future she can only dream of, an end to the discrimination she's been facing. And Billy won't stop her from getting her high grades, but he's making her life even more miserable as it is, with her mother's "sacrifice", her father's abandonment, and her sister's selfishness. Terra feels stuck, and Steve feels like the only good thing in her life- someone she absolutely can't stand to lose.
