The 'Saas' Diaries is a series of short stories dedicated to Desi Mother-in-law encounters. The stories take inspiration from several real-life experiences and other data such as written works and Television shows portraying the influential role of the "Saas" (Mother-in-law) in sub-continental households. The series is not limited to sub-continental stories and I welcome additions to it from other parts of the world. You can either join in using #Saasdiaries or message me with your story if you would like me to write it.

Leilah Usman awaits an acceptance from a university abroad so she can leave the country she never loved when she stumbles upon an ancient diary. Through the eyes of Mahrosh Irfan, she finds herself in a world so completely different from hers. One where the country she wishes to leave did not yet exist on the map of the world. In the 1930s Mahrosh Irfan stumbles and lands herself into trouble with every turn on the road - with a pen in her hand and a passion that has not yet been fueled. Till Walid Ibrahim returns to India with a candle lit in his chest. The road ahead is one full of thorns but once the dream has blossomed, it is impossible to cage it down. As Leilah lives the story along with Mahrosh - a tale of passion, hope, family, sacrifices, heartache and love, she finds herself in the midst of a question that challenges her values. Who are you? // Tu Shaheen Hai - 'You are an eagle.'
