As they are given their final warnings about what would happen if they ran into any more trouble, conflict arises, along with their feelings.

This is a deeply emotional reflection on a powerful, lifelong friendship between two girls. Jane and the narrator who formed an unbreakable bond from childhood, rooted in shared experiences and a sense of "familyship" rather than just friendship. As they grew up, their connection was tested through pain, emotional numbness, and escapism, often fueled by substance use, yet they clung to each other in their search for meaning beyond a harsh reality. Despite the darkness and inner turmoil, their love, loyalty, and shared dreams created a sanctuary, though haunted by the risk of disappearing into it forever.

All hell breaks loose the next day as Melissa's father gives her a sea shell necklace and Leviathan a sea shell ring. They transform into humans. Being in a huge castle they finally escape however they both pass out and get washed up. Along the way Melissa and Leviathan meet some friends who help them defeat the person who killed Melissa's parents
