The two are on a mission to infiltrate the ruins of an old castle from a forgotten time. All is going according to plan... or so they believe. What they will find is a mystery, but surely the duo can handle it. Surely...

The story takes place within a city run by the Architect, they believe they own the city because they built it; but many disagree. [This is one of my short stories that I entered into the Hive Young Writers competition in 2018, it was short listed within the competition.]

Before he's taken in Jacob sets out to regain his memory and find out who really committed the crime. After an encounter with a mugger and being saved by his brother's Pastor, Sam, Jacob decides to learn under his guidance in the day while fighting crime as a vigilante in the dead of night. He then realizes that in order to redeem himself and find his brother's killer he must take on the responsibilities as a hero of the city. As we dip into Jacob's dark past he tries to change his life in the present, but he must soon choose between his vigilante life and a girl who claims to understand him. What Jacob doesn't know is that he has just been targeted by a Russian bounty hunter, and his ongoing odyssey to avenge his brother is only the beginning to something much greater a threat than he could imagine. To face the evil in his wake he must become something more than a vigilante. He must become The Crimson Spirit.

The fire was burning her hands but the girl didn't care. She lowered the wood to the bed and she savored the look in the man's eyes as it caught beneath him. He deserved more, but she was out of time. The smoke made her eyes water, but that did not stop her from spreading it to every available surface. People were screaming now. There was a rustle as men entered the tent. They glanced at their leader and then the girl. She smiled at them. One turned and ran. The other drew his sword. She had expected as much. Her smile did not waver as she danced around him, as she plunged her dagger in his neck. He had been one of the worst at camp, but there were more who needed to pay. The world seemed to shudder as she exited the tent. It happened again. They looked to her and then the destruction behind her. The smart ones, the good ones ran. She had no qualms about cutting down those who did not. Fire trailed in her wake as she touched to wood to the tents. She wanted all of it to burn. Her mind returned to her only seconds before the smoke would have taken her. She realized what she had done and she ran for her life.

Powers weren't rare, in fact most everyone had powers these days, whether it was as mundane as minor telekinesis or as impressive as bending time. What set powers apart however, was their level, which changes only once during puberty and then remains static until their bodies begin to deteriorate with age. Sophra didn't have an impressive power, how impressive could [Perfect Balance] be after all, but with a mastery level of 100 there's no telling what she could do with it. Kylan on the other hand, got stuck with the phenomenal comic power of [Probability Manipulation], but with a mastery level of 0 it almost wasn't worth having any power. Stuck on a path neither of them would have signed up for alone, can they figure out a way to navigate their new, dangerous, reality or will their powers end up not being enough?

The year is 2050. The world has entered into an Age of Post-scarcity under the influence of a one world government which was forged by a conglomerate of tech companies (Google, Facebook, Amazon, Tencent etc.). Rico is a citizen of this world Technocracy. Thus all of his basic necessities are secured by this state-of-the-art Machine of State. Yet Rico doesn't have a job. Doesn't have a purpose. Unwittingly, Rico gets involved with a network of revolutionary terrorists fighting this One World Technocracy. Thus Rico falls unwittingly into the "Techno Underworld".
