Dazai Osamu spirals into a deep depression after Odasaku is killed. He lives fearing that the words his friend told him, that nothing could fill the lonely hole inside of him & that he will wander the darkness forever, is really true & he will never be able to escape from the feelings he has. Unable to outrun his fear & the death of his friend, he decides to kill himself, but this time, it won't be a failed attempt. Evolet Valdez has spent the last few years trying to convince herself it will get better. A loss turned her world upside down & she hasn't been able to make it right again since. After so many years, she has become numb to the world around her & there have been no signs that what she has been convincing herself of will ever really happen. She has stood on the edge of life itself so many times but she's always gone back. Now, she's going to jump. On a cold October night, Dazai is about to jump off a bridge above the ocean & finally free himself from the nightmares in his head. Planning to do the same herself, Evolet finds herself as the only person who might be able to stop Dazai. However, she's too late to stop him from falling, & the only thing she can do is jump after him. As they are falling together, Evolet begs for the world to let Dazai, this stranger she's never known and will never get to know, live. Even though she's never been anyone special, has never had anything just given to her before, her pleas are answered, & they are saved from an almost double suicide. But even though they were saved from their attempt, will they be able to save each other from their monsters?
