The night was supposed to be unforgettable. After celebrating their anniversary, Applejack and Rainbow Dash are driving home, laughing about the future and making plans for next year. It's a perfect end to a perfect day. Then, in a single heartbeat, everything changes. When Rainbow wakes up in the hospital, she doesn't recognize the room. She doesn't recognize the people standing beside her bed. She doesn't even recognize the girl holding her hand. To Rainbow, the name Rainbow Dash means nothing. Canterlot City is unfamiliar. Her friends are strangers. Even the face staring back at her in the mirror belongs to someone she doesn't know. As Applejack struggles to help Rainbow piece together a life she can't remember, both of them are forced to face a heartbreaking question: If every memory is gone... Rainbow Dash accidentally tells everyone at Canterlot High that she has a girlfriend when she's trying to impress some classmates. When some people demand proof, she panics and blurts out the first name that comes to mind: Applejack. Applejack is understandably annoyed when she finds out the entire school suddenly believes they're dating, but Dash convinces her to play along for a while so the story doesn't blow up in her face. they agree it's only temporary and strictly pretend in public. They hold hands sit together at lunch and act like a couple whenever people are watching. At first it's awkward acting and teasing, but the more time they spend together the more natural it starts to feel. Their friends begin to suspect something deeper is going on when the "fake" moments start looking real-small smiles, quiet conversations, and the way they seem to always look for each other in a crowd. What starts as a simple lie slowly turns into something neither than planned for, forcing both of them to question whether they were pretending at all.
