She took my hand and walked me out the front door, then slid my back pack over my shoulder. âI hope I didnât forget anything. Ugh I wish I had more time, but the sooner you get away the better.â She spoke softly and I just stood there so helplessly, not able to meet her eyes. âGod, Iâm such a bad mother, I canât even drive you somewhere to drop you off,â she chuckled humorlessly. At this point, tears were once again flowing out of my eye. âPlease honey, stop crying. Youâre going to make me cry too.â Her voice seemed just as broken as I felt.
âWhen you find someone you know you can trust, maybe they will help you. You can always get a job as a waitress or something like that. Just pleaseâŚwhatever you do, donât take the same steps that I did for money.â She lifted my chin so we could make eye contact. âI canât tell you how much I love you and I know youâre strong. You can do this.â Tears were silently falling down both of our faces now. âThis isnât goodbye, you know. I refuse to let you go forever. Youâre my baby and youâll always be my baby, but I know youâre strong. I wouldnât be sending you away if I didnât think you could do this. Now itâs time for you to go. Iâll see you later, okay?â
