summer was audrey's favorite time of year. not because school was over, but because she got to be with her favorite people in the world. every summer the conklin's, laurel, steven, belly, and audrey who was affectionately nicknamed birdie met up with fisher's, susannah, conrad, jeremiah, and louis at cousins beach. movie nights, ice cream, singing in the shower. that's how summer always was, until this summer. everything was almost darker in a way.

Cousins Beach was a special place for all of the Conklins. All of the family's best memories have been made in Cousins. Between the beach, the summer house, the homemade ice cream shop, but most importantly the Fishers- Susannah, Conrad, and Jeremiah. For the older Conklin children life was at it's peak this summer- Steven had a new job at the country club and a new, very hot, girlfriend while Belly was experiencing the teenage life she'd always desired as a result of her new glow up- deb balls, parties, boys, and the thing she'd dreamed of most, Conrad Fisher, right at her finger tips. Unfortunately for the youngest Conklin child, Kira, an epic summer wasn't the case. All the new attention for Belly had taken away the thing she dreamed of most, Jeremiah Fisher. If Conrad was destined to be with Belly, why was it Jeremiah's lips she caught on her sister? Aurora Jade Conklin is the adopted sister of Steven and Isabel 'Belly' Conklin and adopted daughter of Laurel Conklin. She was the daughter of one of Susannah and Laurel's old friends from high school who died giving birth to Aurora because she had heart problems. Aurora was left with just her father who was so distraught about his wife's death, that he took it out on her. Aurora was abused for her entire life and never had a single friend. Then her father died a year ago from liver cancer and heart disease from his excessive drinking and drug abuse. His will had stated that she be left with Laurel, her godmother and John Conklin, her godfather. Since John and Laurel had split, they both decided it was best that Laurel took Aurora. Aurora was given to Laurel on September 4th, her 16th birthday. Present day, Aurora is going to Cousins for the first time to meet Susannah and her two sons. Aurora doesn't speak to anyone but Belly and Laurel. She feels extremely uncomfortable talking to guys especially ones that are bigger than her.
