On a cold November night, former biology professor TP Dunlap finishes a new alchemical tincture in his lab, designed to (hopefully) enhance brain function. The results are immediate and unexpected. It seems the stars are asking him to deliver a vital message. But what is the message? And to whom must he deliver it? TP's intuition tells him the answers lie in Minglemist, the hidden world accessible through the gap in his garden hedge. A world only he and his unofficially adopted daughter, Madeline Brown, can enter. His intuition grows to certainty when he discovers a journal in an abandoned cabin that seems to have been waiting for him. Deciphering and delivering the message proves to be a difficult and dangerous project with far-reaching consequences, but he has valuable help and support from his lovely lady friend, Claire O'Day.
While TP is occupied with his search, twenty-one-year-old Madeline is facing challenges of her own in the relationship department. Her current boyfriend, Todd Smith, is darn-near perfect - cute, charming, kind, honest, stable and steady. Rich, too, and with a large family, something Madeline has longed for all her life. But the man she fell in love with in Minglemist two summers ago, Sephyr Whitemoon, the prince of Boggy Meadow, still haunts her. She'd broken up with him because it seemed like the right thing to do. But now he's missing, and Madeline can't commit to Todd until she finds Sephyr, makes sure he's all right, and sorts out her conflicting feelings.
The Boggy Meadow Swamp in Minglemist is the epicenter of not only TP's and Madeline's missions, but of a mighty battle being played out among the stars. Can this precious world be saved from the evil influences of a dark star? Only time will tell!
