They came to California to escape their lives. They never expected to run for them. Brooke Gonzales doesn't talk about her father leaving. She doesn't talk about her mother working double shifts. She doesn't talk at all - not really. She swims. The water is the only place her brain goes quiet. Sophia Lewandowski is the state champion everyone expects to succeed. Her Polish-American family has her future mapped out: pre-med, then medical school, then a respectable career. But Sophia has a secret. She doesn't want to save lives. She wants to live them. They meet at a California swim camp. They become friends over midnight dips and card games. They start to think that maybe - just maybe - they've found someone who understands. Then the ground opens. The tripods rise from the earth. Not from the sky. From beneath. Buried for centuries. And they are hungry. Now two girls who were just trying to survive high school must survive something much worse. Los Angeles burns behind them. The 405 is a graveyard. The ocean is red. And the only thing standing between them and death is a friendship forged in the deep end.

Before the tripods, Jaime Irvine was just trying to drop a second off her 200 IM. She woke at 5:00 AM. She ate pancakes her mother made. She sat next to Lauren Aguilar in the cafeteria and complained about taper madness. She tied her hair only for races and wore her glasses everywhere else. She had a state championship. A swim banquet where she held Lauren's hand under the table. Three arcade outings that felt like forever. One night between prelims and finals where she sang karaoke and almost felt invincible. That was 2025. Summer 2026: The aliens don't care about her personal best. Three legs. Heat rays. Red weed in the Mississippi. Jaime and Lauren have one advantage: Jaime knows how to hold her breath. The Last Flip Turn is not a hero story. It is a survivor story. It follows two teenage girls through the ordinary wreckage of junior year and into an extraordinary nightmare. There are no generals, no speeches, no last-minute rescue. Only a swimmer, her best friend, and the slow, terrible realization that the only thing keeping them alive is everything they already learned in the pool. Breathe. Flip. Push off. Repeat. Inspired by War of the Worlds (2005).

Don't scream. Don't whisper. Don't breathe too loud. When the Death Angels fell from the sky, the world learned a new rule: sound equals death. Madeline Rowe, a 16-year-old swimmer from Plainwell, Michigan, learned something else. Underwater, no one can hear you. Underwater, you're safe. Now she's leading her best friend Kathy and her little brother on a desperate 10,000-mile journey to the one place the creatures cannot follow: Australia. But the road is silent. The cities are graveyards. And every step could be their last.

Stranded during a road trip with her two best friends Anita and Kreena in Colorado, Zoe must use her swimmer's instincts to survive. Water masks sound. Breath control saves lives. And the open road west is a gauntlet of broken glass, falling twigs, and the shriek of angels. Their only hope? Flee the mainland. Reach the islands. And pray the ocean is quiet enough.

Some races can't be measured in seconds. Divya Singh is a state champion swimmer from Katy, Texas, with her sights set on one more gold medal. A summer trip to Washington should be a victory lap before senior year-lake swims, cousin time, a chance to finally breathe. Instead, she finds herself in the shadow of a mountain that's waking up. When Cascade Peak erupts, Divya's world becomes a race of a different kind. Alongside her cousin, her best friends, and a retired volcanologist named Harry Dalton, she must navigate ash-choked roads, forest fires, and a landscape that's rewriting itself by the minute. This is a story about the moments between the medals-the fear, the love, and the quiet strength that emerges when everything you've built is tested by fire.

Landon Finn is known as the mean twin, his personality making him fearful and unapproachable, in comparison to Liam Finn the nicer twin, who doesn't understand why Landon acts the way he does. What nobody knows is that Landon has his own demons that make him feel disgusting, these demons that only rise when he's alone, unable to get support. Theo Garcia is Liam's best friend, they've grown together from the age of 5, being inseparable for years. With the amount of time Theo's spent at the Finns' house, people would think that he's also close friends with Landon. Though that's far from truth, in fact Theo hates Landon, he's a stuck up bully who Theo can't believe is related to Liam. While both boys hate each other, they see one another too often. At Landon's house, during classes, at work and at swim related events. Will they get along or is their hatred going to become stronger? Is this year going to be the same as always, or will Landon finally fight his demons and lean on the support he's always had? This is my first story, so the writing may not be good. If you have tips on how to improve my writing, please let me know! All the chapters that are posted are lightly edited. After writing the book, I will go back and heavily edit the story. With that, I'll try to post every week. Enjoy!

Being in love with someone your brother LIKES, such as his best friend, is hard enough--falling for someone he hates is harder. "I guess ours will just have to be a forbidden love, babe." his smooth voice rumbled as his hand cupped my cheek, a smirk gracing his lips. I snorted gracefully, flicking his hand off my face. That's probably the hand he uses to jerk off with. "Yeah, starting now." Chloe Summers is one of two known as the "Twins". Chloe and Keaton's names are linked to amazing parties, hilarious pranks, and scandalous rumors--all originated from Kalewood Academy. When golden-boy Keaton and his bad-ass arch-enemy Casey grapple for the same scholarship, Chloe gets involved. However, she can't seem to stay uninvolved with Casey. [DESPERATELY NEEDS A COVER]

Kalani never thought the moment she ran toward the pool would alter the entire cadence of her life. She only wanted to escape the noise-to dive beneath the chaos and find silence where water meets breath. But there, amidst the ripples, she met Alejandro: a swimmer who lived under the spotlight's applause, and a bassist who hid his restlessness in the low hum of his strings. Their meeting was fleeting, almost accidental. Yet from a single moment where panic met serenity, something wordless began to take shape-an unpracticed rhythm, fragile and real, weaving two souls together in a quiet undertow. But love, they soon discover, is never as graceful as a swim stroke nor as seamless as a melody. Distance, secrets, and choices rise between them-each demanding more courage than any race or performance could. Kalani must learn that the heart cannot always be explored to its depths without the risk of drowning, while Alejandro must face that not every harmony can be played alone. When the tides of life pull them in opposite directions, will they find a way to stay in rhythm-or will love itself dissolve beneath the surface? With Love, Rubin Written Since October 2025
