For Amber Tran, a star swimmer at Lubbock High, the loudest sounds were the roar of the crowd, the splash of the pool, and the laughter of her friends. Her world was a vibrant tapestry of school, sports, and the fierce loyalty of her team. Everything shattered in the summer of 2020. Now, lethal creatures that hunt by sound stalk the Earth. The slightest noise means death. Haunted by the memories of her friends lost on the first day, Amber must use a swimmer's discipline-controlled breathing, silent movement-to survive. Her only hope is to cross a silent, monstrous America and reach the last evacuation point. Her destination is a place where sound still lives: Australia. An island the monsters cannot touch. To get there, she must master a world of silence, or be consumed by it.

My life was measured in milliseconds and the silent focus behind my goggles. I'm Sam, a swimmer from Scottsdale, and I thought my biggest problem was beating my personal best. I was wrong. Now, on a trip to Italy with my best friends, the world has ended. Creatures that hunt by sound have invaded. One scream, one dropped phone, one careless step and you're dead. We're stranded thousands of miles from home. Our only hope is to reach the coast, to an island they can't touch. Because they have one weakness: They can't swim. And I've spent my whole life training for the water. In a world gone terrifyingly silent, my greatest skill might be the only thing that can keep us alive.

Jamie Lam has spent her life as a high school swimmer through a stretch of winter defined by early alarms, damp towels, crowded pool decks, and the slow countdown to the state championships. Her days unfold in familiar places-kitchen tables at dawn, carpools, locker rooms buzzing with half-serious jokes, and long meets where time stretches between races. Swimming shapes everything: friendships built in shared exhaustion, teammates who qualify and teammates who don't, and the unspoken tension of knowing not everyone will keep moving forward together. Away from the pool, life continues quietly. Family routines repeat. School fades in and out of focus. Plans for the future begin to surface in small, unexpected moments. As the lanes narrow and the stakes rise, Jaime starts to understand that growing up doesn't arrive all at once-it happens in pauses, in waiting, in what's left unsaid after the race is over. This is not a story about winning or losing. It's about what happens between-between heats, between friends, between who you are now and who you're becoming.

In June 2020, Madison Yang-a 17-year-old swimmer and orchestra student at Syosset High School-lives a life built on rhythm: early practices, crowded hallways, late-night texts with friends, and the steady comfort of water. Alongside her best friends and teammates Sasha and Natalie, Madison believes her world is predictable, even when the outside news feels heavy and uncertain. But as seasons pass from Halloween lights to championship nerves, from winter city streets to spring protests, everything begins to shift. And when a long-awaited trip to Cape Town, South Africa turns into something unthinkable, Madison and her friends must rely on instinct, loyalty, and the one thing that has always kept them alive: motion. June 2020 - life is loud, bright, ordinary. Houston's Bayou City High School swim team is undefeated, a circle of girls bound by chlorine, laughter, and late-night bubble tea. Seventeen-year-old Amber Tran, fast in the water but slower at facing her fears, spends the year floating between friendship and competition - unaware that everything she loves is numbered in days. Her best friends Denise Nguyen and Avery Holt die on Day One of the Silent Invasion in Manhattan. Amber survives - barely - and the guilt haunts her breath, her heartbeat, and every quiet street. With the world collapsing, the remaining girls must navigate not battlefields, but silence: rustling bags that become death sentences, trembling cries they must swallow, memories they cannot speak aloud. From Houston to New York, and toward a desperate airport evacuation to Melbourne, the girls run not to live - but to outswim the grief that shadows them.

Her teammate, Iris "Flower" Wang is trying to savor every last moment with her best friend, Fraser. But after a hug that crosses an unspoken line, Iris uncovers her freshman-year journal and a truth she's been running from: she's always been in love with him. Now, with graduation looming, staying quiet feels like its own kind of lie. For Danica and Iris, the hardest race won't be in the pool; it's the one against time to mend a broken friendship and confess a hidden love, or watch as their chances disappear into the deep end.

This is his only vice. No drugs, he's seen too many friends throw their life away, and there are already plenty of users in NYC. No need to add to it. He really doesn't drink, either. Maybe it's because he's always itching to run, he thinks. Thats his thing, running. In a car, on foot, metaphorically, you name it. If theres one thing License it good at, its avoidance. Since childhood he's been the avoidant type, putting off assignments and lectures from his mother as long as possible. OR; me ranting aimlessly about the random facts i know about License and putting them into a somewhat story thing. I honestly have no idea what this is but yea.

"Even though I didn't understand it then Jimin, I don't think my feelings for you are platonic, I don't think they've ever been. I like you Jimin like a whole fucking lot and it killed me too all those years you being so close to me yet just out of reach" You know those couples who have been best friends ever since they were kids, grew up together, figured out they had feelings for each other in about middle school, and finally got together either during high school or college? Yeah, Jimin and Jungkook would have been one of those, they had been almost inseparable ever since they were kids and most people especially Jimin's mother figured Jimin and Jungkook would probably end up falling in love but one day, Jungkook is ripped so terribly fast away from Jimin, both of them did not understand why. Even though Jimin and Jungkook still grew up together, it was not in a "we've known each other for years but we've only been dating for two" way, they still saw each other, every single day but from a distance like they were watching a movie that they so badly wanted to be in. Imagine seeing your first love, the love of your life being happy with other people who don't know him as you do, imagine looking at him living like your relationship never existed. Imagine not being able to explore who you are and being forced to hide it, especially when you so badly want to lean into your desires for the one that you want and have always wanted. To both Jimin and Jungkook, the other was always so very close but always just out of reach. *Disclaimer* None of the pictures and fan art in this story are mine! I just found them on Pinterest
