Nine hundred years ago, the continent of Valinora was a slaughterhouse. Humanity lived as nothing more than cattle under the absolute, terrifying sovereignty of the Aldaere-an immortal, impossibly beautiful race who held an absolute monopoly on magic. Born at an agonizingly slow rate through sacred birthing orbs, these tyrants ruled through fear and a telepathic hive-mind army of vicious Goblins, towering Hobgoblins, and brutish Trolls.
But humanity refused to be extinguished. In a grueling, four-century war of attrition known as the Four-Hundred-Year Crucible, mankind weaponized physical engineering, shattered the Aldaere's birthing vaults, and executed the last of the immortals. The hive-mind shattered, the monsters scattered into the dark corners of the world, and a free humanity stepped into the sun to build a new world upon the bones of the old.
Now, nearly a millennium later, the scars of the past have faded into tavern myths. The artificial biomes engineered by the tyrants have stabilized, and thriving human civilizations span the continent. But peace is a fragile veneer, and the relentless march of time is about to unearth secrets that were meant to stay buried.
As the narrative progresses, the true cost of humanity's long-standing freedom will be put to the test. With the memory of their common oppressor entirely forgotten, the greatest threat to mankind may no longer lie in the dark, but in the reflection of their own banners.
