Book 1 of The System Trilogy Ember Quinn is living an ordinary life in battery city. Deprived of her personality and emotions since childhood, she is the perfect example of a perfect citizen. However, after 15 years, she quits her emotion suppressant pills, and sees the "amazing" city for what it really is. A place of lies and secrets with penalties of death if you step out of line. Ember leaves her old self in the city, embracing her Killjoy alter ego as she joins the fight against the people who tore her apart. In her rise to becoming a feared and respected renegade, she makes allegiances, faces betrayals and says goodbye to many people along to way.
