Book Four in the "Starforged Sagas" series of tales. In a world much like our own, a single cosmic event will shape the lives of billions and the destinies of thousands. Civilization will never be the same again. In a world of civil unrest, unconscionable warfare, economic strife, and political posturing, the legacy of a people thought extinct will echo into the modern world. Alexander Curry, "Xander" to his family and friends, is a humble man who lives for life on the ocean. Growing up in Key West, FL, his father dragged him aboard just about every boat in the harbor. His mother having succumbed to an illness when he was only eight, he only knew life with his dad. Being a "half-breed" didn't make anything a picnic. His father is the typical Florida man with European heritage. His mother was Puerto Rican and Taino. Xander saw his share of dirty looks and mistrust around the harbor and the town. When the mysterious energy hits Earth, Xander's world is turned upside down and he faces an entirely new avenue of discrimination. Having enough, he sets sail in his personal vessel to find answers, himself, and perhaps the wisdom of his ancestors. Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Chronicles of Narnia. Irene Rosales Vivas is so stoked for summer to start. She daydreams about playing on her gameboy and 123 Pescao with her little brother, Alejandro, and hanging out with friends at the beaches of San Juan. Then her mami packs up the whole family in Papi's car and sets their destination for her estranged abuelo's home in Camuy. Upon meeting her abuelo, she notices how dismissive he is to her mami and how he makes everything about himself, souring her impression of the man. The last thing Irene expected was to find a huge mirror covered in Taíno markings in his office. When she and Alejandro touch it, a portal bursts to life. And to make things worse, her abuelo pushes them both through it, thrusting them into a world of magic, monsters, and where the gods are as real as you and me. Speaking of gods, on Irene and Alejandro's arrival, she accidentally cuts her hand on a statue which awakens an ancient Cacica, a warmongering chieftain whose magic was so powerful she had to be sealed away in stone. Now the gods have tasked them with the responsibility of finding and destroying the Cacica's amulet, the item that allows her to summon and control hupías, bad spirits which wreak havoc on the living. Sounds easy, right? Irene and Alejandro hoped so. Otherwise, the Cacica's first order of business would be sacrificing them to restore their abuelo to his prime so he can stand at her side and conquer everything in their path.
