Lucas Rivera, un biólogo nocturno, se adentra en las lomas de la República Dominicana para estudiar la fauna nocturna y explorar las leyendas locales. Durante su investigación, se encuentra con Caona, una Ciguapa de gran belleza y misterio que lo hipnotiza y lo lleva a perderse en el bosque. Desorientado y confuso, Lucas es rescatado por un baquiano, un guardián de las montañas que lo guía de vuelta al pueblo. Sin embargo, al seguir al baquiano, Lucas se convierte en parte de las leyendas de las lomas. De regreso en el pueblo, Lucas cuenta su experiencia, despertando la curiosidad y el temor de los aldeanos. Mientras tanto, Caona se reúne con otras Ciguapas en un mundo alterno oculto tras una cascada, un paraíso de vegetación exuberante y aguas cristalinas.
