Kieran O'Byrne is in an extremely bad mood. Although she has pretty much believed in time travel, somewhat, she can not believe that her mother has time traveled from the accident that almost killed her to now. She cannot believe that someone caused the accident to happen on purpose. She especially cannot believe that she and her friends must travel back in time, and live through past events to find who murdered Maddie Deets (who died in her mother's accident) because she evidently is somehow crucial in Kieran's future-and the future of the world. And it's nearly impossible to believe that she is falling in love with Maddie Deets.

Everyone thinks fake dating your best friend would be so much fun, but Diana is tired. She loves Luke, she does, but this isn't good for either of them. They're just using it to hide. She doesn't want to hide anymore. She wants to start being honest with herself, and Albion Prescott is the key to figuring out how to do that. Except, Albion isn't a key. They're a person, one who's spent a lot of energy trying to be okay after suddenly losing their two best friends in the world three years ago. They're fine now, they're just not sure if they want to talk to Diana ever again. When they were little, Albion, Diana, and Luke dreamed of being knights, wizards, rulers of the world. Now they're just three scared teenagers asking themselves the same question: where do I go from here?
