After what felt like an eternity, Laney finally built up the courage needed to insert the album into the CD player her mom had gifted her for Christmas. Track upon track, it hit her like a high-velocity train, but what affected her the most was Dave's cynical tone, his voice blasting through the speakers with almost too much indifference and casualty for someone who lived through all of what his music conveyed. Maybe that was his way of showing her that he was over it, and over her. That it didn't hurt anymore. Or maybe it was the exact opposite. Maybe it showed how much it hurt, how much she had torn him. Maybe that was his way of punishing her for everything that they went through. Or maybe it was both or none at all. Whatever the case it was, the truth was that Laney could hear herself portrayed in the words he sang, moments and memories of their brief, but intense, time together broken down into melodic poems. Reminding her of how good and right it had felt, and of how she had ruined it when she opted to put herself, and herself only, first.

This story follows the young girl Y/N and her band The Runes as they make their way to a successful music career. The Runes are a underground punk cover band that likes to travel around states of America putting on several shows a week in hopes of getting big. One particular gig ends up with them meeting one of their biggest idols and their children. Y/N finds herself in an unusual situation as she finds herself falling for the son of Taylor Hawkins. Will she allow herself to fall for him in hopes that he will reciprocate or will she block it out so she doesn't make it weird?

this fic is based on Dave's time with Queens of the Stone Age!! Jody Homme is the twin sister of Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme. She had always felt kind of down compared to her brother in talent. Jody had always hung out with the guys in the band because of Josh, of course. Things had always been normal with them until late 2001 when someone new joined the band. When it felt like Foo Fighters was going through a rough patch, Dave decided to take a break. He decided to join his friend, Josh Homme's, band. After meeting Jody, it feels like his whole world changes.
