They begin to wonder if maybe they shouldn't have attended Caraval, risking everything they worked so hard for as their happy endings suddenly seem to be in danger. Is this really a game, as the performers of Caraval always claim? Or does this run much deeper, sourced from anger and jealousy and violence? Will everyone get their happy endings back once more?
