"You liked the game?" he asked, one brow lifted and Piper sighed.
Right. The game. Of course he wanted to talk about his match. Piper had no idea about the game play or tactics. There had been... running. And shouting. And a ball? Definitely a ball.
They had been losing anyway... badly. Until number 7 stepped under the spotlight and the whole game changed. "Remember the name!" the stadium announcer had shouted.
"We... won?" she ventured, tilting her head. "I'm, like, eighty percent sure we won."
Number 7 laughed softly, pushing himself from the wall to get closer. At least he got rid of the ugly uniform somewhere. "We definitely did." He whispered back, as if they were telling a secret no one should know about.
"Oh good." She pressed a hand to her chest in mock relief. "I would've felt really awkward celebrating a loss that enthusiastically."
"Is that what you were doing?" He stepped closer, close enough that she could see the dark brown hiding in the black of his eyes. "Celebrating?"
"Obviously. I'm very supportive." She nodded solemnly. "I even yelled things."
"Yeah?" His mouth curved. "What kind of things?"
"Very technical stuff," she said. "Like... 'Boo!' I think I really bonded with the crowd"
He huffed a laugh. "Ruthless," he teased. "I almost felt sorry for my opponent."
She shrugged it off and leaned in a little, lowering her voice. "Please. They deserved it."
Then she remembered that she was supposed to find him annoying. So, she turned back to the dartboard and threw. Again, she hit her goal.
