Eightteen-year-old Ava never wanted to move. From the sunbaked silence of Texas to the grey chill of London, everything feels colder-including the people.
Invisible at school. Ignored at home. Her parents' world revolves around her younger brother, who needs "more attention." Ava has learned not to ask for help. Not to expect love. She makes her own meals. Washes her own clothes. Survives.
But when a school trip ends in disaster, and she's left with a broken leg and nowhere to go, Ava's world fully collapses. Her parents don't visit the hospital. They don't call. And when she's discharged... they don't let her come home.
"You can't do anything," they say. "You're just another burden."
Alone, abandoned, and broken-literally-Ava expects nothing from anyone.
Until Mr. Sun-Louis-her young Math teacher, offers help. Shelter. Safety. And maybe something Ava's never known: someone who truly sees her.
But what happens when comfort crosses a line?
When care turns into something neither of them can name?
And what if the only person who's ever saved her... might be the one she shouldn't trust?
