After Kendall, Halle and a few other girls make fun of Briar in the change room for allegedly being a lesbian, Briar becomes distraught. Then, Briar confides in her father. Ross convinces her to start a GSA at her conservative school, so she can meet and bond with other people like her. The next day, Briar, Chloe, and Jordan get approved to start James Madison Junior High's very first Gay/Straight Alliance club. This club allows Briar to meet people like Tiago, a Latino, young, trans boy who desperately wants to start testosterone. Kate, an unapologetic feminist and lesbian who falls head over heels for Quinn, a shy bisexual girl who is just trying to figure everything out. Luke, a star basketball player and amputee who makes Briar's best friend and football teammate, Spencer, question his sexuality. Parker, a deaf boy who gives Bailey butterflies. Camila, an outgoing girl who helps Jordan discover more about his cynical self. And Charlie, a gay boy with a love for art who helps Chloe feel beautiful for the first time in her life. Teenage syndrome is common these days, people expect us to act as adults but stay kids. Have jobs but return at curfew. Be normal and not awkward, be social and be perfect. Im sorry to tell you but the truth is the exact opposite. We are the most awkward people you'll find on planet earth, or in the universe in general. So stop with the shit load of pressure, stop collecting stress and making us carry it on our backs, don't judge us because, in these years that we are supposed to discover ourselves, we are also supposed to take futuristic decisions. I used to view the world around me in purples and pinks and shades of comforting blue, but now it all seems to be this uneasy gray color. As if everything that ever brought me comfort was dipped in this unfamiliar gray liquid that I sink deeper into, unable to grasp onto anything I used to know.
