18 year old Laurel Eayre and her sister Suzy haven't been back to Eayreston, Vermont since their family moved. Following a messy scandal, Laurel's parents send them to live with their grandparents till the storm blows over.
Though it's the end of her senior year, Laurel is overwhelmed by seeing her old friends again, especially in light of her politician father's very public downfall. Not only that, she is terrified of running into the boy who was her best friend back in elementary school. She has not spoken to Gilbert Levy in nearly six years, not since the night she turned her back on him and broke his trust.
Unfortunately, Gil is also the stage manager of the theater program. After Lauren becomes the assistant director to Eayreston High's production of 'Guys and Dolls', the two are inevitably thrown into each other's company over and over. And he's nothing like the sensitive, quiet boy that she once knew. Snarky with a leather jacket and dry expression, he's not exactly a bad boy, but he isn't all that nice either.
Can they both move beyond wounds from the past to find that second chances are indeed possible?
