Yasmin is loud, difficult and impossible to ignore. Everyone at school seems to hate her, though nobody can ever explain why in a way that feels serious enough. Teachers adore her. Her friends defend her. Yet somehow every conversation still ends with someone telling her she ruins everything.
When she befriends Emilia Evelyn the strange emo girl nobody noticed before the two become inseparable. But friendship quickly turns into dependence, and dependence into destruction. Between fake accounts, rumours, addictions, breakdowns and boys who know exactly which wounds to press on, their group begins collapsing in on itself.
Told through the eyes of a narrator who is as self-aware as she is unreliable, Hiding in Plain Sight explores teenage cruelty, identity, addiction, autism, love and the unbearable desire to be understood. Because sometimes the people trying hardest to save everyone around them are the ones quietly drowning in full view of everybody else.
