Every person has seen an unknown caller on their phone. Most people will recognize them immediately as telemarketers. Someone who calls them in the middle of the night just to sell them a time share or to save money on their insurance premium. I don't have time for menial things like that. I have better things to do than listen to a sales pitch. Why don't they stop pestering me? My anger builds and builds until finally... I answer the phone. Written for a Creative Writing course with a horror beginning in the shower prompt.

Your typical slow-burn, friends-to-lovers trope, with a dash of manipulative dysfunctional family issues, and quite a bit of angst. .... Ivelyn Cadwell, by all definitions, should've been happy. She was successful, had a mother and father who could support her every whim, and a bank account to support her for the rest of her life. She hates herself precisely because she isn't. Mallory, a telemarketer, on the other hand, had every right to despair. Abandoned by his mother at seven, and losing the foster family he finally learned to trust at twenty, Mal should've, rationally, fallen to the dark tendrils of depression, and yet, he hasn't. Mal's happy. He swears he is. And then Ivelyn picked up his call.

In the future telemarketers won't use the phone. They'll beam straight into your house. In the future being a telemarketer will be a really, really lousy job.
