Every debt in Fabletown gets collected. Not every ledger tells the truth.
Devon Cricket keeps records on everyone - who owes what, who's selling what, who wants something buried. When Sheriff Bigby Wolf catches a thief climbing out of Cricket's window with property that shouldn't exist anymore, he expects a routine case.
He gets Daphine Williams instead: a bakery owner with a spotless reputation, a six-week-old grief she won't explain, and a working knowledge of every debt Cricket's ever collected on. The property she stole belonged to Pinocchio - dead two months, inheritance gone, murder unsolved.
She has answers. She isn't giving them up easily. Neither is the ledger.
As Bigby pulls the thread, Fabletown's underworld starts unraveling faster than either of them can track - a missing ring no one will claim, a best friend who knows more than she's saying, and a killer who's been hiding in plain sight, settling accounts nobody thought were still open.
Some debts don't stay buried. Some ledgers were never meant to balance.
