Let me ask you a question. How are you important? When the world comes to an end, as is inevitable, the human race may or may not exist at the time. As I gaze at the men and women around me, I am disheartened. I can't seem to envision our species existing for much longer at all. We are killing ourselves, through war, through economy, through religion, and through leadership. I struggle to comprehend continuation. It simply does not seem feasible, to me at least. I don't know how the world will end, but this is an idea. It is far-fetched and unrefined, but not incomprehensible. Nothing is at this point. This is a scenario where we murder each other in a desperate bid to continue, and then, in our death, we survive, we continue, and then we return. And though our existence is dead, we rebuild it, and we continue evermore. This is also told from the perspective of an empty can of soda pop. It was a short story I wrote for Language Arts class, as well. The entire point of this story was to practice using "vivid verbs." I'd like to think I turned it into something a little bit more. The pop can in this story, forsaken and discarded, mattered. He, she, it, whatever mattered. It made an impact. As do we all, somehow. You matter. We matter. Therefore, you and we shall have a part to play in our apocalypse. Consider this always, and beware your endings.
