Caleb lives in a world where magic and superpowers are commonplace. Regularly, he passes by people who have horns, swords merged with their elbows, and beetle-like shells. Some, like him, can actively control their powers. It does, as with most things, come with a price. It differs from person to person, but almost everyone needs materials to fuel their abilities, no matter what they may be. Materials are often readily available, but not to someone like Caleb. Because his material is human hearts.
