Her bubble of sanity and regularity. Mitchell, a man who no one knows about. One who gets phone calls and disappears for weeks on end. His past, present, and future is unknown to all, except him. He knows exactly how he wants everything to end up, and Mitchell always gets what he wants. On a chance meeting, Samantha and Mitchell meet. And it's an incident that neither of them will forget. Since then Samantha's world crumbles as she questions whether everything is as she thought it was. And Mitchell's mind is filled with her. Her scent, her image. Her. He will stop at nothing to know her. But Mitchell knows something that Samantha doesn't and it will put everything to the test.

I wake up to the familiar smell of burning wood and brick. Wait, I'm pretty sure I have never smelled that before. I look over at the clock, it's 2:35. How did this happen? Why does it smell familiar? What was I just dreaming about? Then the immensity of it fell upon me. The house is on fire. Why am I still in bed? I need to get out. I get out of my king-sized bed, I got it as an early birthday present because I turn 16 today, and groggily walk over and feel my door. It's not hot, so I'm okay. I open the door and smoke hits me like a thousand bricks. I fall to the floor, my ice blue eyes not seeing a thing, my lungs burning with every cough and inhale of the smoke.

We as humans fear death. This statement remains true in our fluctuating universe. No matter how you look at it, or how much you deny it, it simply is true. We fight and we lie and we create a fire in our hearts as we scream our biases. But where do we run when the fires of the past burn too bright for us to stand? The answer is anywhere. Anywhere that isn't where the problem lies. So when we as humans killed off our own kin slowly, it'd be only natural for them us run. So we ran. We ran and ran deep underground into the tunnels we created. We are many, but I am one. One that is named Nick Rosemary, and I am one of these humans that dwell deep underneath the earth. In a place very rightfully called The Retreat. But what if we are too clustered? What do we do when the bastion from our mistakes become a mistake itself? We run, and we don't look back. But where do we go when there's nowhere to run? We kill. We kill the things that aren't necessary. We kill our young. I am but one of these young that is subjected to this process of running from the fears created by death. I am in the Extermination Exams, and I live solely to die.
