Things start to get better as they start discovering their talents and finding the path to fame. annie leblanc, a bullied student of maryland highschool carries on, accepting the hate. family says it will get better, but she knows damn well it won't anytime soon. upset about her current life, she decides to keep it on the low. her plan goes to waste when she's elected to show a new student around the terrifying highschool. just when she thinks she has a friend, he turns on her, and turning into one of the horrible, many bullies of hers. life gets extremely low, and she's sent to spend a long while with her older cousin, named paige. paige attempts to glamify her, make her stand out, make her fit in, make her change. annie isn't having it. after a long day of annoyance of 'glamification', annie flees off to the park. when thinking nobody is around, she whips out her song book. while singing with passion, little does she know, someone is watching, and hearing her sing her heart out, and scribbling down lyrics. after their confrontation, a new sort of bond is bound to start.

Mackenzie Ziegler is a perfectly happy woman, living in sunny Los Angeles with her best friend Lauren Orlando. Her singing career is just getting started, and she's being offered gigs that artists twice her age haven't had the chance to do yet. Life for her? Well it's going great... until the day where everything comes crashing down. Mackenzie gets diagnosed with Lupus, a disease that attacks her kidneys. Too scared to reach out to anyone, she keeps everything about her diagnosis locked away inside of her and tries her hardest not to tell anyone. In a moment of desperation, Johnny offers her a kidney - but even that might not be enough. What if Lupus takes over more of Mackenzie's organs? Will they be able to set aside their differences for the sake of Mackenzie's health, career and life in general?
