This is a free copy of the actual "The Great Gatsby" for anyone to read. It's also free online, but I'm putting it here to make it easier. Description : Nick Carraway is a young Midwestern man freshly arrived in New York to make his fortune. He rents a shabby apartment in Long Island next door to a sumptuous mansion: the home of the mysterious and wealthy Jay Gatsby. Carraway spends time catching up with his distant cousin Daisy and her industry-baron husband Tom before being invited to one of Gatsby's wildly lavish weekend parties. There he meets Jordan, a flapper and a golf star, and an intricate web of romances and betrayals begins to unfold. Approximately 50,000 words. Olivia Oliver was born into wealth and privilege in Beverly, Massachusetts, but when her family loses their estate during the Great Depression, she is forced to move herself and her two orphaned siblings out of Oliver Manor and into a small apartment downtown. Her new home comes with a bevy of neighbors: motherly Miss Edda, moody Richard Barton and his daughter Sarah, grouchy Mr. Hecker, and the charming dance instructor Alan Carey. Olivia is soon swept up in the thrill of a professional dance career, working two jobs, raising her siblings, attempting to meet her aunt and uncle's societal expectations, and navigating a friendship with the handsome new owner of Oliver Manor. For fans of historical fiction and romance, and heavily influenced by the work of L.M. Montgomery and L.M. Alcott, "Miss Oliver At Home" is a moving story about what truly makes a place a home. This is a completed work, with new chapters released each week! ©Amanda Flynn 2011-2024

Olivia Turner was pretty, smart, kind, God-fearing and hard working. She was the girl every family wanted their daughters to grow up to be like. That is until she made one mistake that would divide a small town and forever change the course of two families. A Planting Season: Volume One of the Cotton Chronicles, is a fictional account of the trials and tribulations of two families in rural South Alabama during the Great Depression. It is the story of strong women who find a way to succeed against all odds and in spite of their ne'er-do-well men. At times a raucous ride while at others a heart rending tale, A Planting Season has something for everyone. You will cheer for some characters while plotting the demise of others. As you read A Planting Season, bring a shovel and a tissue. You will need both! What the Experts Are Saying: Bravo! There is so much heart and soul in this story. "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." * * * The Great Depression was, by far, one of the worst tragedies in the history of the world. People drowned in debt. Banks were ruined. The stock market was broken and unreliable. But one of the only things that kept people going was this new style of music. It was rhythmic, infectious, and something that people had never quite heard of before. So they called it jazz.
