After years away, Red Willow returns to her Osage homeland. She returns with a mind shaped by another culture, a heart divided between two worlds, and the fear that she no longer truly belongs in either. The prairie she once knew has changed. Buffalo have grown scarce, settlers press ever closer to Osage lands, and the traditions she left behind now feel both familiar and distant. While her grandmother welcomes her with open arms, Red Willow struggles to reconnect with the people and customs that once defined her. Marie Ingalls has always been one of a nomadic lifestyle, Unlike her family who had only stayed in one place their whole lives. She knew there was more to life than becoming a wife. The world is so vast and beautiful, there is no reason to not explore it. When she comes home to visit her brothers from a journey to Boston, her father informs her that her brother, Charles, was moving to Kansas. She couldn't help but ask to tag along, she'd never been out west before and had dreamed of the thick countryside. Once in Kansas she gets stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes between two men who adore her.
