A few short poems based on the novel Their eyes were watching god by Zora Neale Hurston. The book Their eyes are watching god is about a girl named Janie who at 16 got married to Logan Killicks and after that she found herself in an abusive relationship with Joe Starks who at first gave her a better relationship but over time became more controlling of Janie's social interaction. For an English class in 2019, we read "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston, and I really enjoyed it. I think the prompt for this assignment was to make a different creative work reflecting the plot of the book, so I wrote a poem and may have gotten way too into explaining it. I'd recommend reading the book before reading this poem (mostly because it's a classic work of literature), but feel free to dive in without context, too! :)
