Being King Alfred's bastard daughter would put Serene's life in danger if someone found out. Including herself. On her sixteenth birthday her mother had told her of her father. A week later Danes had attacked their village, making her watch as they all took a turn with her mother then slit her throat. After that the Danes took her in as their own. That was until Uthred of Bebbenburg had soon walked into her path. A Irishman along with him.
