After Ellie is saved from the fireflies, thanks to her her father-like figure, Joel. The struggling survivors Make their way back to Tommy's safe haven. Ellie confronts her doubts head on, just to be lied to from the man she trusts the most. Joel believes it's for her own good, not wanting her to know that he chose her life over the whole worlds future. It remained a secret until years later, as Joel is shot by some passing fireflies. As he lay on his death bed. He reveals the the selfish decision he had made ten years previous. He informs her that outside Tommy's walls isn't safe as the fireflies are still looking for her and the love he had for her was the reason for his death. Full of anger from the loss of Joel and the realization that Marlene was willing to give her up for science. Ellie goes on fiendish murdering spree on a quest to find the new leader of the fireflies and willing to kill anyone who gets in her way.
