"Substitutes" is a suspenseful speculative short story about a girl named Eliza who discovers that the people in her school have been replaced by aliens. Eliza wakes up one morning with an eerie feeling and heads to Jefferson High, noticing strange behavior among her classmates and teachers. Everyone moves in unison and displays blank expressions. Throughout the day, Eliza becomes increasingly alarmed by the synchronized, robotic and alien behavior of those around her.
