This story was set long before Teresa and Thomas came along. After Minho's girlfriend, Paula was stung, she came out of the changing a different person. Changes didn't only affected Paula but so did the glade. From the appearance of Beetle Blades, anonymous nightmares and the stories from Paula's flashbacks, Minho tries to figure out the mysteries behind all this animosity as well as finding a way out of the maze.

Newt changed schools a month before the school year ended because of some troubles at the old school. He befriended Thomas, a boy in his class, and became part of his friend group. But everything goes changed when, after a party, the brunette and the blond stopped talking out of the sudden, for weeks But it all comes back to normal after a tragedy was stopped from happening. Suddenly, the worst night for all of them is around the corner, and it might be the last summer they could be actually happy.

Harsh daylight blinds the girl as her eyes slowly open and adjust. An arm pops out of the box, clawing at the ground to get a hold on something. The girl's dirty blonde hair covered head shoots out of the metal death trap so she could survey her surroundings. Her eyes scan the large field, looking for signs of other human life. Needless to say, she found none. With a final push of strength, her body leaps out of the ground and collides with the earth. She is the first Glader.
