Tristian Murphy, a capable yet isolated Starfleet Officer in the science division, is transferred from the medical ship, USS Quest, to the USS Peregrine, a refitted Nova Class Ship that had just completed its one-year shakedown cruise. As Tristan performs his duties, he must learn to adapt to the environment of a new ship and its crew, and deal with a developing crisis that threatens to reopen old wounds long thought healed.
