On a gloomy day Tara Martin went to U.S. Open where her friend was supposed to play chess at. Tara had gone there a couple days early so she could check the place out while looking around. She bumps into someone, but this wasn't just someone, this person was familiar to Tara. While she insists she knows him, he convinces her she has the wrong person and they hit it off and start to create a serious relationship with one another. But then everything starts to change.

Life is like chess; unpredictable. The ending depends on every move or choice you make. Playing chess has always been an escape from life. But perhaps I should face the fact that I'm a human being with feelings, feelings for a certain blonde chess player. After dividing Borkov that's all I can think about; Benny Watts. Amelia Harmon wasn't as extraordinary as her sister Elizabeth Harmon. Amelia Harmon was always second to her sister Beth even when getting adopted. When faith had seemed to condemn her to the slums, her brazen mother thankfully marries a wealthy widower. This turn of events results in her rise as a prodigy violinist under her stepfather's wing. As she ventures into adulthood, her mother persists that she let go of her perfectly constructed life plan and "just enjoy being in the present". However, how could she when her stepsister continues to remain irritatingly competitive and discriminating? She was going to live life perfectly right and orderly. Amidst her first-world problems, the violinist meets a young Benny Watts, who for some reason can't seem to leave her alone. Sadly, Eloise is clever enough to realise that not all good things last.

Beth Harmon had defeated Borgov at the Moscow Invitational tournament and the whole world changed for her. She decided to stay in Moscow and see what opportunities presented themselves to her. After all she was now surely going to be counted as one of the world leading chess players of her generations and Moscow was these days ranked as the unofficial capital of elite tournament chess.
