After the fall, John is faced with some very difficult times. He is pushing everyone away and still hopes that somehow, Sherlock could still be alive. His hope fades quickly once he realizes that he is all alone. That if Sherlock was ever coming back, he would have by now. Sherlock is facing problems of his own and struggles to stay away from John until the right moment. He knows John is hurt, but that's just the beginning. John needs him.
