The summer of '63 was supposed to be the same as every other-baseball, hot dogs, and lazy afternoons at the Sandlot. But when 14-year-old Brooke Grover moves into the neighborhood once again, with a strong arm but rejection of baseball society, the guys aren't sure what to make of her.
Shy, awkward, and more into schoolings than scoreboards, Brooke doesn't fit in... until a surprise talent earns her a spot on the team-and maybe even in their hearts. With Bertram on her side like a good sibling should, and the rest of the crew slowly warming up, Brooke learns that sometimes, all it takes to find your place is one good summer.
